Dead by Daylight — Your First Two Weeks

Bloodpoints, the Bloodweb, and why your first character feels like it has no perks — because it does not.

by I Want Meta

Why you start with one perk

A character begins with only one perk slot unlocked. The others open at Bloodweb Levels 5, 10 and 15.

This is the single most confusing thing about starting Dead by Daylight. The game looks like it has a deep loadout system and yours is empty — not because you have not found perks, but because you have not levelled the character enough to equip them.

So: pick one survivor or one killer and push them to Level 15 before spreading out. Four perks on one character beats one perk on four.

Bloodpoints and the Bloodweb

Bloodpoints are the progression currency, and they are spent in the Bloodweb — a web of nodes you buy through. Clear every node and the character gains a level, up to Level 50. After that you consume the centre node to prestige, which runs up to Prestige 100.

Two caps to know about.

Per trial, you can earn a maximum of 10,000 Bloodpoints in each of four scoring categories — 40,000 in a match. Once a category is maxed, more of that activity earns nothing. If you have spent the whole match on generators, you have probably capped the objective category and should go do something else. The scoring system is quietly telling you to play the whole game.

Overall, Bloodpoints from trials and Tome challenges cap at 5,000,000. Points from login rewards and codes are exempt and can push you past it. If you are near the cap, spend before you play.

From Level 10 of a Bloodweb onward, the Entity starts consuming nodes before you can buy them. You will not get everything you want in a web; take what matters first.

What the match actually is

Survivors repair 5 generators to power the 2 exit gates, then leave. The killer stops them. That is the whole game, and almost every mechanic is in service of it.

As a survivor, the mistake is treating it as a hiding game. Generators do not repair themselves, and a match where nobody commits to them is a slow loss.

As a killer, the mistake is chasing one survivor across the map while the other three finish the objective.

There are currently 48 playable survivors and a large roster of killers, but survivors differ only in their perks — they have identical stats. Killers do not; each has a distinct power. So pick a survivor for their perks, and a killer for how they play.

The first fortnight

  1. Level one character to 15 before touching another.
  2. Play both sides. Understanding what the killer sees is the fastest way to stop dying, and vice versa.
  3. Spend Bloodpoints before you cap.
  4. Do not save perks for later — a perk in the Bloodweb you did not buy is gone when the Entity takes it.
  5. Learn one map at a time. Knowing where the pallets are is worth more than any perk.

Where this comes from

The numbers here were read from these pages on September 5, 2026. Games patch, and a guide is only as current as the last time somebody checked it — so if something below disagrees with what you see in game, the game is right.
