Genshin Impact — Your First Two Weeks
What resin is, why it is the only resource that matters, and the early decisions that are expensive to undo.
The one number that runs the game
Original Resin regenerates at 1 unit every 8 minutes, up to a cap of 200. Left alone, a full day gives you about 180 resin, and a week about 1,260.
That rate is the whole shape of Genshin. Almost every reward worth having costs resin, and you cannot rush it. Treat it as a daily budget rather than a thing to save.
Because the cap is 200 and a day produces 180, resin only overflows if you leave it for more than a day. You do not need to log in constantly — you need to log in before it caps.
Spending it well
Every point of resin you spend gives Adventure EXP at a 5:1 ratio. A 20-resin activity returns 100 Adventure EXP. This matters more than it sounds: Adventure Rank gates most of the game, and there is no way to raise it quickly other than spending resin.
Condensed Resin is the quality-of-life unlock to chase. It turns 60 resin into 1 Condensed Resin, and you can hold 5 at a time. The recipe comes from Liyue Reputation Level 3, or you can buy it from a blacksmith in Mondstadt or Liyue for 50,000 Mora. Condensed Resin lets you clear a domain once for double rewards instead of twice, which halves the time you spend loading in.
Adventure Rank, and the walls in it
Adventure Rank runs to 60, and World Level to 9. Past AR 60, Adventure EXP converts to Mora at 10:1 instead.
The important detail is that AR 25, 35, 45 and 50 each have an Ascension quest gating the next stretch. You can ignore them — your EXP keeps accumulating — but your World Level stops rising, which means enemies stay weak and so do their drops. Most people who feel stuck at mid-game have skipped one of these.
Raising World Level makes enemies tougher and their rewards better. If you have overreached, World Level can be lowered by 1 from the Profile screen once you are past World Level 3. That is a real option, not an admission of defeat.
Artifacts: do not start early
There are five artifact slots — Flower of Life, Plume of Death, Sands of Eon, Goblet of Eonothem, and Circlet of Logos. Each has one main stat and up to four sub-stats.
Artifacts are the single biggest resin sink in the game and the one with the worst return early. The pieces you farm before your World Level is high will be replaced, and the resin is gone. Spend early resin on character and weapon levelling instead, where nothing is wasted.
Your inventory holds 2,400 artifacts. You will hit that eventually; it is not a concern in week one.
What actually matters in the first fortnight
- Spend resin every day — anything is better than letting it cap.
- Level one team of four, not eight characters halfway.
- Do the Adventure Rank Ascension quests when they unlock, or the game quietly stops progressing.
- Leave artifacts alone until you have a team that clears content comfortably.
- Open the map, unlock waypoints and Statues of the Seven — this is free, costs no resin, and raises your stamina and Adventure Rank.
The mistake that costs the most time is not pulling badly. It is spreading resin across six half-built characters and having no team strong enough to farm with.
Where this comes from
The numbers here were read from these pages on September 5, 2026. Games patch, and a guide is only as current as the last time somebody checked it — so if something below disagrees with what you see in game, the game is right.
