Palworld — Your First Two Weeks
Technology points, why Work Suitability decides which Pals are worth catching, and how bases actually scale.
Technology points are the real progression
You get 6 Technology Points every level up, and the level cap is 80 — so a full playthrough yields 474 points from levelling alone.
Two other sources matter more than they look:
- 1 Technology Point for every fast travel point or Tower fast travel point you unlock
- 5 Ancient Technology Points for defeating a tower boss
Fast travel points are free technology. Unlocking them as you pass is the least effort-per-point in the game, and new players routinely run past a dozen of them.
Ancient Technology Points are separate and can only come from tower bosses. If something you want needs them, no amount of levelling will help — you have to go fight a tower.
Catch the same Pal more than once
You get an EXP bonus for the first 12 captures of any given species. That is not a small bonus, and it is the fastest early levelling in the game.
So when you find a species you can catch reliably, catch it repeatedly rather than moving on after one. Twelve of them, then move on.
Work Suitability is what makes a Pal useful
Every Pal is born with work suitabilities rated from 0 (absent) to 8 (highest) across 12 different work traits. This — not combat stats — is what decides whether a Pal earns its place at your base.
Suitability can be raised. A Pal Essence Condenser adds one level per condensation, up to a maximum of level 10, which means a mediocre Pal in a role you need can be pushed past a naturally better one.
Traits stack on top. Lucky gives +15% attack and +15% workforce. Legend, which only comes on Alpha Pals, gives +20% attack and defence and +15% movement speed.
The practical rule: check the work icons before you throw a sphere. A Pal with a 3 in the thing you need is worth more to your base than a rarer one with a 1.
Bases scale in two directions
Your Palbox levels up as you meet its requirements — usually by building specific structures the game wants to see, like a Primitive Furnace or a stack of Pal Beds.
Levelling it does two things. It raises how many Pals can work in the base, up to 15 by default (or 20 with adjusted world settings), and it unlocks two additional bases alongside your first.
Three bases is the shape to aim for: one for ore, one for food and breeding, one wherever you are currently exploring.
The first fortnight
- Unlock every fast travel point you walk past. Free technology, permanently.
- Catch 12 of anything you can catch easily before moving on.
- Read work suitability icons, not rarity, when deciding who stays at base.
- Level the Palbox deliberately — it gates both base size and base count.
- Go fight a tower boss once you can. Ancient Technology Points come from nowhere else.
Where this comes from
The numbers here were read from these pages on September 5, 2026. Games patch, and a guide is only as current as the last time somebody checked it — so if something below disagrees with what you see in game, the game is right.
