Wuthering Waves — Your First Two Weeks
Waveplates, the overflow that makes them forgiving, and where Union EXP actually comes from.
Waveplates
Waveplates regenerate at 1 every 6 minutes, capping at 240 — a full day from empty.
The part worth knowing: past the cap, the overflow is not lost. Excess becomes Waveplate Crystals at 1 every 12 minutes, up to 480, and those exchange back 1:1 for Waveplates. A Crystal Solvent restores 60 outright.
So the game keeps banking for you at half rate after you cap. Missing a day costs you half a day, not a whole one.
Union Level comes mostly from spending
This is the thing new players miss. Union EXP is not primarily a reward for exploring — it is a reward for spending Waveplates.
You get 75 Union EXP for every 10 Waveplates used. In practice:
- A Forgery Challenge or Simulation Training costs 40 Waveplates and pays 300 Union EXP
- A Boss Challenge, Weekly Challenge or Tacet Suppression costs 60 and pays 450
Exploration does contribute, but at a very different scale: 30 Union EXP per Resonance Beacon, 60 per Resonance Nexus, and 100 per Guidebook Milestone.
Both matter. But if your Union Level feels stuck, the answer is almost always that you are hoarding Waveplates rather than that you have not explored enough.
Union Level also gates content directly — some recurring Guidebook challenges will not open until you reach a given level.
Convene
Pulling unlocks during First Resonance, in Act I of Huanglong, which you reach at Union Level 4.
Two beginner banners are worth finishing:
- The Novice Convene runs to 50 pulls with one non-promotional 5★ guaranteed inside them, at a 20% discount — 40 Lustrous Tides instead of 50. It closes early if the 5★ arrives before you finish.
- The Beginner's Choice Convene runs to 80 pulls, also with a guaranteed non-promotional 5★.
Take the discount on the Novice banner. It is 10 free pulls for pressing a different button.
The first fortnight
- Spend Waveplates — they are your Union Level, not just your loot.
- Unlock Beacons as you travel. They are fast travel, EXP and map progress at once.
- Finish the Novice Convene using the 40-tide batch.
- Do not over-invest in early Echoes, which get replaced like every gear system in this genre.
- Practise dodging. This game rewards it more than its neighbours do, and the story fights are a safe place to learn.
Where this comes from
The numbers here were read from these pages on September 5, 2026. Games patch, and a guide is only as current as the last time somebody checked it — so if something below disagrees with what you see in game, the game is right.
